A Message From Susan

I’m Susan Fisher and I’m proud to be your voice in the NC General Assembly. As a fifth generation Buncombe County native, I value our quality of life here in the mountains and I’m working hard for Western North Carolina. I believe we can build a sustainable economy in our region with good jobs that enable working families to support themselves for the long term while at the same time investing in education, health care and the environment.

I believe that education is the key to our economic future. As a parent of two grown children and a grandmother of two little ones, I understand that schools need sufficient resources to provide quality education for all students. I believe that investing in education is the most important thing we can do for our people and our economy. I have fought for education funding, preserved teaching positions, and protected education as a vital priority in our state budget. As your Representative, I will continue to support quality education at every level.

I am also working hard to improve our economy and create well-paying, sustainable jobs in our region. I believe that we must prioritize clean, sustainable, small, local businesses to strengthen our local economy. I also believe that we must look beyond incentives to attract industry to our area that matches our skills, values, and resources. I believe that WNC can and will be a hub for green technology, creating jobs based on innovative new uses of science and technology.

We live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, and we need to work together to make sure it remains beautiful for generations to come. I have supported the Clean Cars Bill, the Energy Future Bill, and other legislation aimed at cleaning up our environment, decreasing greenhouse gases, and supporting renewable energy. I support strong environmental legislation for the sake of public health, the health of NC ecosystems, and our children’s future. Locally, I worked to protect the Woodfin watershed, opposed Progress Energy’s plan to build a new coal fired power plant here, and supported steep slopes regulations. With your support, I will continue to work to protect and clean up our environment.

My parents and children and grandchildren are part of the heritage and the future of this community, and their interests are no different than yours: our economy, our schools, affordable health care, and a healthy, clean environment.

Thank you for re-electing me to represent you. Remember, my office in Raleigh is really YOUR office in Raleigh — I am there to represent YOU! I take seriously the commitment to represent the concerns, ideas, hopes, and values of my constituents. I hope you will keep me posted about issues of importance to you. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to work for you in the General Assembly, and look forward to continuing to serve the people of western North Carolina.
